Book Report

Just recently I finished two awesome books. Rut, Rot, or Revival by AW Tozer and Secrets of the vine by Bruce Wilkinson. Rut Rot or Revival dealt with the condition of the church. It was very helpful for what my church was going through. The main thought is that when the church is insistent on staying in a routine, it will eventually be in a rut. After being in a rut long enough, the church will begin to rot. We need to get back to the basics of living like Christ so we will experience REVIVAL!!!!

The Secrets of the Vine is a great book to show us how we can abide in Christ. It shares three secrets that are shared in John 15.
Secret #1-"If your life consistently bears no fruit, God will intervene to discipline you." The Bible says that God disciplines us like a Father does a son. He does because He loves us and wants us to experience the abundant life that He desires for us.
Secret #2-"If your life bears some fruit, God will intervene to prune you." This process hurts as well, although is not as severe as discipline. God will trim away anything in your life that is hindering you from the abundant life.
Secret #3-"If your life bears a lot of fruit, God will invite you to abide more deeply with Him." The best way I can define abiding in living constantly in the presence of God. This takes a lot of work and I don't think we will ever master it until we see Him in Heaven.

Right now I'm reading Simple Church by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger and Direct Hit by Dr. Paul Borden. Both books talk about the simplicity of the church and where churches need to be.
